Letters to my Mum

Always a story

Hi Mummy Darling,

It’s all been a bit crazy recently and there’s always a story right….

It took Mike a while to recover from his chest pains, we encouraged him to rest as much as possible, but I think the appointment in London was part of the stress.

VW have been great at looking after Mike. They picked him up and took him to work for a few days and decided when he had to go home so none of it was in his control, which made me relax a bit.

I have just found it really hard being away from him, since we got the letter and even more so since the other Thursday.

So this is where the story begins (or continues :D), we had the appointment last Friday.

I had organised for Chloe to stay at Leo’s so she was very excited and Sandra had offered to look after the girls for us.

We had got the girls ready and we were just getting on their shoes and coats when Madison suddenly throws up!

She had given us no warning signs, not complained that she felt unwell, so I cleared it all up and Mike sorted her out.

In the meantime we’re trying to get hold of Sandra to see if she is still happy to have the girls.

Dropping Chloe off at Leo’s, Mandy rings and says Sandra is still happy to help so we head over to Maidstone and drop off  the girls with Sa.

We continued up to Ebbsfleet and travelled into London and down to Westminster for Mike’s appointment.

They started with an ECG and a small stress test.

We were then called in to see the genetic nurse. Thank goodness Mandy was with us!

We had to go through all of the family and who has which ailments, Mike and I would’ve had no idea.

We then waited for a while before we were called in to see Dr Carr-White.

He was really lovely but seemed frustrated, I was trying to gauge whether it was at Mike’s reaction or the treatment Mike has had.

The outcome of the meeting is

Changing Mike’s medication as it is completely wrong – he is hoping this will improve Mike’s quality of life

To carry out a proper stress test, with an oxygen mask to see what the heart is doing.

To get the results of the 3 days of monitoring from the WHH as he hasn’t received them yet.

To do an echocardiogram as he can’t believe Mike hasn’t had one since 2012.

Take blood for blood tests, including to see whether the Cardiomyopathy is genetic.

Male the next appt in 2 months time to give time for the new medication to start working.

He said that Mike’s heart is weak but that his age is on his side and that surgery would really be his last option with the risk of heart failure with his weakened heart, or a stroke, so he wants to explore every other avenue first.

In the meantime, Sa had a great day with the girls. Madison was fine until about 4pm, when all of a sudden everything she had drunk and eaten came back up.

By the time we got to her at about 7pm, she was eating again and absolutely fine.

On the Saturday we went to pick up Chloe from Leo’s and then the girls argued for most of the day!

Honestly Mum, they drove me to distraction!

After much deliberation, we decided to go to John’s 70th birthday party as the girls were fine and on the condition I drove. It was great fun, the girls got tattoos, played pass the parcel and we spent some time on the dance floor.

It was lovely to see the family.

We left the party and headed to Birmingham for Imogen’s party, I really didn’t want to miss it.

We carried on up the M1 to find of course, that it was closed at junction 5 for one night only!! We had to drive up the A5 and re-join further up and then getting to Birmingham, the M6 was closed from Junction 6 so we came off at junction 5 and had to drive through the city centre. We got to Beth and Si’s at 23:30!

We got the girls to bed and I had the joy of Madison getting up at 05:35!! Why?!?!?!?!?!

Vics appeared with Isabelle who got very excited to see Madison and woke up Chloe and Abigail but they were all excited to be there.

We had a morning at the house which was lovely and I finished off the banoffee pie I had started for the party.

The party was good fun, there were more tattoos, that I was in charge of, There was pass the parcel, a pinata and lots of food and drink. The littlies just loved throwing the balloons around.

You are still greatly missed, we did scream to let the devil out of the cake though :-D.

We decided to head home straight after the party. as with the girls going back to school I was hoping to get them home to their beds, it didn’t quite work out that way!

We changed from the M40 to M1 as there had been 3 accidents.

We stopped at the Oxford Services and got the girls a McDonalds and carried on our way.

Mike kept commenting on how his burger didn’t taste right.

The girls fell asleep, we got stuck in an accident on the M25 for ages and once through we had to stop for fuel.

Mike left the keys on the seat and disappeared. After a while I was getting a bit worried about him so I put on my boots to go looking, when Madison started crying.

As I got out of the car she started heaving, I got her out of the car as quickly as I could and the sick just kept coming. Mike suddenly re-appeared in the Service Station so I’m shouting for his help.

He came out so I could take Madison into the toilets and clean her up. I brought her back out to the car to find Chloe and Abigail crying as they both needed the toilet so badly.

There I am carrying Abigail and Chloe across the forecourt as neither of them had shoes on, I got them to the toilet and back to the car, as Chloe started freaking out about going back in the car.

She was just irrational Mum, she refused to get back in, screaming and shouting. Mike’s getting cross and shouting trying to get her to listen, Chloe screaming for me, with everybody in the service station watching us.

I eventually managed to cuddle her and calm her down enough to get her in the car for us to get home about 21:40, we had left Birmingham at 16:10!!!!

I’m a little tired this week….. it’s been a loooooonnnnnngggg weekend.

I miss you Mum, I miss being able to talk to you about everything.

Sending you all my love

My heart is aching

Hi Mum,

How are you?

I’m missing you so terribly at the moment.

I’m feeling lost without you here to see and speak to.

Mike collapsed at work yesterday Mum and they had to call an ambulance for him.

He literally collapsed clutching his heart and shouting in pain.

Mike’s boss had to call me at work and tell me. Not the easiest phone call he’s ever had to make.

Mike’s ok, he was discharged from hospital yesterday but has stayed home resting.

They ran some tests on Mike but weren’t sure of the conclusion.

It could’ve been a severe angina attack or possible a blood clot.

It was such a shock for me.

When I get calls it crosses my mind that it could be Mike but the more it isn’t the more I dismiss it.

So for the call to be about Mike was really upsetting.

I got to the hospital and found him sitting up chatting, which immediately calmed me.

The longer I was with him more the more I realised he wasn’t quite himself though.

Sabs tool me back to work to get my car. The drive back to the hospital was the longest ever.

I felt lost without you to ring.

It’s always you I ring.

It’s always you who comes to see us.

It’s always you who makes me feel like I’m not alone in this.

Mandy and Chris have been amazing Mum, but it’s not the same without you.

Hopefully we’ll get some answers next Friday at Guy’s hospital.

We’ve also found out that one of my favourite people is not very well Mum.

I’m so gutted.

She has to get better.

Watch over her for me please Mum.

I’ll keep you posted on how he is.

Missing you Mum.

Love you.

Latest news….

Hi Mum,

I keep seeing an ad on tv that has ‘When I fall in love’ by Nat King Cole as the music, for some reason it reminds me of you every time I hear it.

There are many things that make me think of you, apart from aspects of every day life and these include

A cup of tea

People’s feet

Philadelphia

Ryvita

Eton Mess

Babies giggling

Our girls having a ‘wow’ moment

Plus many other things.

Mike worked both days last weekend and he is again this weekend, that’s when I miss you as well, you always used to cook us dinner and let me and the girls stay with you this weekend.

Latest news as well is that Vics is running the London Marathon in memory of you Mum, it’s so exciting.

She ran to me on Sunday and then we did my shorter Sunday run for the rest of it. It’s lovely to feel like I can support her through it.

We need to come up with fundraising ideas as she needs to raise £1,700! Vics has had the idea of getting something in the paper, you were loved so much Mum that we think your patients would love to know that we are doing these kind of events for you.

Chloe’s still desperately trying to not bite her nails so she doesn’t have to go to Imogen’s party as a princess and we are already having conversations about having a cup of tea in memory of you in April. I cannot believe we are already looking at 1 year!

Nearly 1 year without you Mum, it still doesn’t feel real.

We miss you Mum.

All our love

I ran in London in the winter

Hi Mummy Darling,

So, I did the London Winter Run last Sunday, yep, 10k around the streets of London, on my own, raising £215 for Cancer Research UK.

My gorgeous husband and lovely daughters came with me and were there at the finish line which was amazing.

Mike had taken them to Trafalgar Square and for a hot chocolate whilst they were waiting for me.

We then took the girls to the Natural History Museum and on to the Science Museum, which they loved.

I, on the other hand, was really struggling by the time we got to the Science Museum and I had to sit and wait for them to go around before we went on to the cafe.

We all enjoyed a coffee/juice and cake with Sandra’s Josh, it was really lovely to see him.

I literally had to pull Madison and Abigail to the tube and on to the train home.

They were both so tired but they were all so good Mum, you would’ve been proud of them.

The girls really enjoyed their first trip to London and they loved all the escalators to the underground.

Mike had his heart monitor on all weekend, he had trouble sleeping with the wires and the box attached to him.

It will be interesting to see what the results are. We’re in London 13th Feb for the results.

We’ve sold the giant wardrobe in the girls’ bedroom so now we need to get a new smaller one and organise all of their toys upstairs for them.

It will be nice not having so many toys in the living room.

I missed having you with us Mum.

I just miss you full stop really.

Sending you lots of love.
